The Suzan was chosen Seven Must-See Brooklyn Bands by mtvU!
Thanks mtvU and Alt Citizen.
The MTV Video Music Awards will be going down in Brooklyn this Sunday at 9/8c, bringing the likes of Kanye West, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Grimes and more to the borough for an unpredictable night of music and spectacle.
Why is the Moonman being hoisted in Brooklyn this year instead of the more traditional award show sites like Manhattan or LA? One likely reason is that BK has evolved into a powerful epicenter and incubator of creativity in recent years with great bands of all genres playing on any given day.
A density of talent that thick is overwhelming. To help us sort through this hyperactive scene we turned to Brooklyn-based music & culture blog and dilligent pursuers of “art & awesome” Alt Citizen, who were kind enough to call out six Brooklyn acts that any passionate music fan should not miss.
Finding the best music coming out of Brooklyn is no easy feat. Thankfully, Alt Citizen and mtvU teamed up to scour the graffiti-coated, hot trash smelling streets and came up with the incredibly talented musicians below.

The Suzan
In Japan in the early part of this decade, two sisters and their best friends joined forces to become The Suzan. Via a MySpace message, Rie, Saori, Nico and Ikue somehow convinced Bjorn Yttling (of Peter Bjorn & John) to produce their second full-length LP. The result, 2010’s Golden Week For The Poco Poco Beat, is the perfect antidote to any bad day with its inventive pop and dance-worthy beats. The charm they probably hooked Yttling with definitely translates live, as was evident when they played our Alt Citizen party in Bushwick back in June. They had every person dancing.Devils by The Suzan
